SYRIZA leader addresses local party event in Patras

Main Opposition Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) leader Alexis Tsipras on Monday visited the city of Patras and addressed a local party event.

Tsipras said that people had two choices, "either with (PM Antonis) Samaras' plans which undermine democracy and destroy society, or with the Left and with democracy,"

and referring to Europarliament elections and the expected repeat round of local elections stressed that "we (may) have three ballot boxes before us, but only one choice to win in our lives, our future, our country, our city."

Tsipras said that the city of Patras experienced a rapid disindustrialization that increased unemployment long before the memorandums, which came during a period when the city needed a new development plan, adding that the city's shutdown shops is a reflection of its financial decay.

The event was also addressed by candidate mayor Costas Spartinos and candidate for western Greece region head Vassilis Hatzilambrou.

After Patras, Tsipras visited Mesolonghi while tonight he will address an event held in Agrinio.
