Syrian aircraft departs from Athens airport after refuelling

A Syrian Tupolev-134 aircraft that landed at Athens International Airport for refuelling on Tuesday departed at 17:10, the airport announced. According to sources, there were 26 people on board.

After being subjected to all required inspection procedures, as applied in cases of international embargo, the aircraft was refuelled at around 15:30 and then departed for its destination, taking a Syrian diplomatic mission to Switzerland for the Geneva II conference on peace talks for Syria.

A Greek foreign ministry announcement responding to foreign press and Syrian TV reports stress that all proper procedures and conventions applied for embargoed countries were being followed.
