Alleged human trafficker dies during chase off Kos island

A Turkish national lost his life on Tuesday during a Coast Guard vessel chase. The 29 year-old was allegedly involved in the illegal transport of 7 undocumented migrants from Turkey to Psalidi beach, Kos island.

According to Coast Guard, the Turkish national, who drove a speedboat, ignored Coast Guard patrol vessel's signal and rammed at least four times the patrol boat. Coast Guard officers fired warning shots but unfortunately some bullets ricocheted and hit the alleged trafficker.

A sworn administrative inquiry has been ordered by Kos port authority while Piraeus admiralty court prosecutor has been already informed about the incident.
