Veterans: Share what you can do now that you’re vaccinated!

So you’re a Veteran, family member or caregiver and you’re fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Congratulations!

There are so many things that so many of us haven’t been able to do in the last year and a half because of this virus. Now that you’re vaccinated, how has your life changed as a result? How will it change?

The post-COVID possibilities are endless

What activities can you safely resume that you haven’t been able

to do – or been comfortable doing – since the spring of 2020? Where can you go? Who can you visit? Everyone has a different list.

Download, fill in, photograph and share

Maybe now you can hug your parents or grandparents. Or finally take the grandkids to get that ice cream cone you promised them last summer. Perhaps visit a relative you’ve been anxious to see in the hospital or nursing home. Have a relaxing dinner with friends. Go to a long-overdue wedding – and stay for the reception. Volunteer (maybe at your local VA medical center). Attend religious services. Sing in the choir. Go to a concert. Ride an elevator with strangers. See a movie or a play in an actual theater. Or just visit a (fully vaccinated) neighbor, indoors, and enjoy doing nothing at all together.

Whatever your activity, we invite you to share it on your social media channels.

How? It’s easy. Download a #NowICanSafely card. Print it out. Fill in your favorite activity. Take a photo of yourself with the card. You don’t have to be doing the activity in the photo, although that would be nice. Just you holding the card is enough. Then post your photo on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #NowICanSafely. Be sure to tag @VeteransHealth when you do!

Celebrate your freedom – and encourage others to get the shot

Hopefully, your story will encourage others to take the shot and help defeat this virus that has had such a profound effect on all our lives.

As further encouragement, tell your friends and fellow Veterans that VA is here to vaccinate them today. You don’t even have to be enrolled in VA health care to receive the vaccine.

It’s been a long and challenging year. You deserve a chance to celebrate your new freedom – and share it with the world.

And meanwhile, spread the word to those in your communities that when they are ready to get the shot, VA is here for them.
