Polish Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak on Saturday announced that Poland would purchase four sets of combat drones from Turkey, Sputnik’s Turkish edition reported.

According to a report of the Polish official news

agency (PAP), Poland will buy 24 Bayraktar TB2 type armed unmanned aerial vehicles from Turkey.

“This is a real weapon. They proved themselves in wars in the east of Europe. It was also used in the Middle East,” said the Polish minister.

The purchase agreement of UAVs is scheduled to be signed next week during the visit of Polish President Andrzej Duda to Turkey on Monday.

The 24 Bayraktar drones include guided anti-tank missiles, Błaszczak noted.

The purchase of weapons will be supplemented with a logistics and training package and offset related to maintenance to be carried out by a Polish “military enterprise,” he said.

“The Polish Army will receive weapons that have not been used by the Polish armed forces so far-proven, effective weapons that deter the aggressor,” Błaszczak concluded.

Turkey’s armed drones have become something of a symbol of its military interventions in Syria, Iraq, Libya and Nagorno-Karabakh in recent years. The mainstay of Turkey’s drone fleet in the TB-2 Bayraktar, developed by a firm owned by Haluk Bayraktar, whose brother is Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s son in law.
