EU funds relocation of Rethymno Archaeological Museum

The incorporation into the NSRF funding of the temporary exhibition of the Archaeological Museum of Rethymno, Crete was finally approved.
The Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities Ephorate will receive 287,900 euros to relocate the exhibits from the building that now houses the Archaeological Museum of Rethymno – which faces

serious statical problems – to the central hall of the St. Francis monastery in Rethymno and to operate the temporary exhibition.
The exhibition includes finds from the Neolithic Era until the Venetian occupation of the island, which will be shown in chronological sections; approximately 1,000 finds will be on display either in cases or free-standing. Multimedia and other information material will be available to visitors.
The project is expected to be completed within 16 months, and includes all necessary operations from beginning to end, including conservation and tour guiding.
