Main opposition Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) spokesman Panos Skourletis on Friday characterized as a fiasco the Paris negotiations between the government and the troika representing the country's lenders.
Speaking on VIMA FM radio, he underlined that “the government returns empty
handed, despite the talk about a big battle it was going to give and major changes in the policy implemented.” At some point it should assume its responsibilities and become accountable, he added.
Asked about SYRIZA's pledge to abolish the memorandum, he said that “it is a political view and commitment we have expressed a long time ago, ever since the memorandum became part of our lives, and each day it becomes more urgent.”
Commenting on the news reports that the prime minister will announce tax reliefs in his address during the inauguration of the 79th Thessaloniki International Fair, Skourletis said that any announcement for tax reliefs will be another mockery of the Greek people.
As regards SYRIZA's views on NATO, Skourletis said that a new international security mechanism is necessary in which Europe will have its own voice and will be able to guarantee its role as a world peace force, noting that NATO should dissolve because it has become obsolete.
