Opinion poll: Golden Dawn percentages down; ND leading

A 2.5 percent decline in extreme-right Golden Dawn's percentages was registered by an opinion poll conducted by RASS for Eleftheros Typos newspaper.

In the opinion poll, conducted after the stabbing death of Pavlos Fyssas by a Golden Dawn (Chryssi Avghi) member, 8 of 10 respondents called Golden Dawn a fascist or criminal organisation while 77 percent believe that it is necessary for the government to proceed immediately to legislative changes against the extreme-right party's criminal activity.

According to the poll results, New Democracy (ND) is leading with 25,4 percent; SYRIZA is following with 22,7 percent; Golden Dawn got 5,8 percent; Communist Party (KKE) 5,7 percent; PASOK 5.3 percent, Independent Greeks (ANEL) 4,3 percent and Democratic Left (DIMAR) 2,5 percent.

The poll was nationwide and was held between September 19-21.
