The signing ceremony was attended by U.S. Ambassador to Greece, George Tsounis.

The agreement’s goal,

as emphasized during the signing, is to strengthen the relationship between these two university institutes.

“Through this memorandum, Greece introduces its first Chinese studies program,” noted Panteion University’s President, Christina Koulouri, explaining that it will be integrated into the existing International and European Studies curriculum.

Ms. Koulouri highlighted the extensive potential for collaboration under this agreement, including joint efforts in teaching, research, and publications.

From Columbia’s perspective, Professor of Political Science Andy Nathan emphasized the significance of the exchange

“Greece lacks an independent center for Chinese studies. Establishing one is crucial. This program represents academic freedom,” he said.
