Greek Language is "Nation's DNA," PASOK Leader Tells Alexandria Diaspora

PASOK party leaderNikos Androulakis has emphasized the crucial importance of preservingthe Greek language among diaspora communities, calling it "theDNA of every nation," during his official visit to the Greekcommunity of Alexandria.

Speaking after hismeeting with Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria Theodoros II and a tourof local community institutions, Mr. Androulakis praised the role

ofthe Greek community in safeguarding cultural heritage and promotingGreek language education abroad.

"No child inthe worldGreek or not — who wants to learn Greek should bedeprived of that opportunity," Mr. Androulakis said.

"Language isthe DNA of every nation, and we must take advantage of all moderntechnologies to ensure its transmission."

He highlighted theimportance of supporting a new generation of Greeks living abroad,particularly children of those who left the country during thefinancial crisis, stressing they must be empowered to carry forwardthe Greek language.

Mr. Androulakis alsoextended thanks to the president of the Greek Community ofAlexandria, Mr. Andreas Vafeiadis, and board members for their warmwelcome and guided tour of the city’s Greek schools, nursing home,and cemeteries.

He referenced therenowned poet Constantine Cavafy, calling him "our greatAlexandrian poet," and commended the community’s efforts touphold the spirit of what Mr. Cavafy called the "Common GreekTongue."
