Eπιστολή Λ.Χριστοφόρου σε Μπάιντεν για αναγνώριση Γενοκτονίας Αρμενίων-Ποντίων

Ο Ευρωβουλευτής Λευτέρης Χριστοφόρου απέστειλε επιστολή στον Αμερικανό Πρόεδρο Joe Biden όπου τον καλεί να προχωρήσει άμεσα στην Αναγνώριση της Γενοκτονίας των Αρμενίων και των Ελλήνων του Πόντου.

Συγκεκριμένα ο Ευρωβουλευτής επισημαίνει.

«Απέστειλα επιστολή στον Πρόεδρο των Η.Π.Α., όπου τον καλώ να προχωρήσει στην Αναγνώριση της Γενοκτονίας των Αρμενίων. Η εξόντωση 1.5 εκατομμυρίου Αρμενίων, το 1915, από τους Νεότουρκους αποτελεί μία από τις πιο μαύρες και βάρβαρες σελίδες στην Ιστορία της ανθρωπότητας. Είναι χρέος

όλων μας, ν’ αναγνωρίσουμε το φρικτό έγκλημα που διαπράχθηκε σε βάρος ενός περήφανου, πολιτισμένου, ειρηνικού και ιστορικού λαού, όπως είναι ο λαός των Αρμενίων. Είναι ιστορικό  καθήκον της πολιτισμένης ανθρωπότητας να αναγνωρίσει την Γενοκτονία των Αρμενίων και να τιμήσει τη μνήμη του 1.5 εκατομμυρίου Αρμενίων, που υπέστησαν τα πάνδεινα, εκτοπίστηκαν, σφαγιάστηκαν και εξοντώθηκαν, από τους Νεότουρκους.

Η Τουρκία με προκλητικό τρόπο συνεχίζει να αρνείται την Γενοκτονία των Αρμενίων και συνεχίζει την πολιτική εξόντωσης τους, με τη απαράδεκτη προκλητική επέμβαση της, στο Ναγκόρνο Καραμπάχ. Γνωρίζοντας τις αρχές και αξίες, του νέου Προέδρου των Η.Π.Α., πιστεύω ότι θα ανταποκριθεί στην έκκληση μου και θα προχωρήσει στην Αναγνώριση της Γενοκτονίας των Αρμενίων Ταυτόχρονα ζήτησα από τον Πρόεδρο των Η.Π.Α, να αναγνωρίσει την Γενοκτονία σε βάρος των Ελλήνων του Πόντου, που πραγματοποιήθηκε από τους Νεότουρκους την ίδια περίοδο με την Γενοκτονία των Αρμενίων.

353.000 Έλληνες του Πόντου, εξοντώθηκαν και εκτοπίστηκαν από την γη τους και υπέστησαν πρωτοφανείς διωγμούς και σφαγές από τους Νεότουρκους».

Mr President,

Congratulations on your election.  Your election was filled with hope and optimism for better days around the world.

As a Greek Cypriot, I was particularly happy about your election, because you represent the same principles and values, of freedom, democracy, justice, for which we fight every day.  Especially in my homeland Cyprus, where Human Rights and International Law are violated due to the ongoing Turkish occupation

As a Greek Cypriot, who has lived in exile for 46 years due to the invasion and occupation of my country by Turkish troops, I am optimistic that today the USA is led by a Democratic President, who we can trust and rely on for practical support for the solution of the Cyprus Problem.

As an MEP of the Republic of Cyprus in the European Parliament, I feel that with your election, the EU is once again finding a stable, real, reliable and sincere friend and ally who will fight together with us for the same ideals and the same values.

I know that in the past you have very rightly supported the Recognition of the Armenian Genocide.  It is an incomprehensible historical fact that the Neo-Turks executed 1.5 million Armenians and displaced them from the land they inhabited. Even today, Turkey is possessed by hatred and hostility towards the Armenians and the proof of this is the provocative intervention of Turkey in Nagorno Karabakh against the Armenians.

We, as the European Parliament, have recognized the Armenian Genocide, respecting the memory of the Victims of the Genocide, but also with the strong position that it is a historic duty to recognize the Armenian Genocide, because only then will we stop new genocides.

The Day of Remembrance for the Armenian Genocide is commemorated every year on April 24, which is the Day that in 1915, the Neo-Turks implemented their criminal plan to exterminate the Armenians.

At the same time I would ask, for exactly the same reasons, that you recognize the Genocide of the Greeks of Pontus by the Neo-Turks, which historically occurred at the same time. In 1914 the massacres, extermination and displacement of the Greeks of Pontus began, which led to the annihilation of 353,000 Greeks of Pontus.

Knowing your strong positions, your principles and your values, we expect the recognition from the USA, of the Genocides of both the Armenians and Greeks of Pontus committed by the Neo-Turks.
