As crossovers and SUVs slowly but surely announce the demise of the station wagon, the King of Rock and Roll comes on the scene to remind us that the humble longroof is much cooler than your petty Cadillac SRX or overly-expensive Escalade.

While most of us know what Mr. Presley is all about from his “50,000,000 Elvis

Fans Can’t Be Wrong” compilation album, us gearheads admire Elvis for this infamous quote – “Ambition is a dream with a V8 engine.” Truer words have never been spoken.

Also known as the King of Cadillac buyers for the 100+ models he bought during his lifetime, Elvis was all shook up about his iconic pink Fleetwood, the gold El Dorado and the vehicle we’ll talk about today – a 1972 Cadillac Sedan DeVille Station Wagon.

In the last years of Elvis’ life, the go-to automobile of the King of R’n’R was this longroof here, custom made to suit the artist’s taste. Only two were ever made by Caddy, with one of the cars going to Dean Martin then disappearing into the ether. The first thing that strikes us about Elvis’ station wagon is represented by the 24k gold spokes and badge. Dear rappers, this is what bling-bling is all about. Yours truly, autoevolution.

Modified to swallow Elvis’ friends, luggage and all, Mr. Presley drove this car from Las Vegas to his Graceland mansion in 1977. That was Elvis’ last road trip before he died 4 months later. Since that unfortunate event, the Caddy went to the Elvis Presley Museum, and it is still titled to the Museum. However, you can now find it in the parking lot of its original home in Southern Cali.

Care to guess how much the owner wants for this piece of R’n’R history? $1.5 million or trade-ins along the lines of cars like the “Porsche 911 RSR, Mercedes Gullwing, etc.,” as well as “precious stones or real estate.”

Don’t know about you, but for a “poor boy from Memphis” that drove a truck when he got outta high school, Elvis was born under a lucky star. As much as audiophiles admire Elvis’ Sun Studio recordings, us petrolheads can’t get enough of the cars the King owned and drove during his lifetime.

This ’72 Caddy listed on Hemmings is even more impressive by virtue of the fact that it’s more down to earth compared to other cars the King owned, including a Mercedes-Benz Grosser and a DeTomaso Pantera.
