Renault in the limelight at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival with twice as many vehicles and four New Twingo models!

Having shared the values of cinema for over 110 years and partnered the Cannes Film Festival since 1983, Renault this year is celebrating the centenary of the birth of Charlie Chaplin with Carmen Chaplin’s short film The Innovators. One of the stars of the film, set to music by David Bowie, is none other than the Renault Twin’Z.

For the 67th Cannes Film Festival, Renault is strengthening its partnership, doubling the number of its vehicles to over 200 in all. From May 14 to 25, 2014, 70 Renault Latitude and 140 Espace models will be escorting the stars of the silver screen to the foot of the red carpet.

As part of new developments for 2014, 107 Renault vehicles from the official fleet will provide the stars with an in-car WiFi connection, based on a unique system designed with Orange. The two partners are also organizing an initiative called #selfieCannes! The idea is for passengers to take photos of themselves in the cars and to share them on the social networks.

Renault is also rolling out the red carpet for its New Twingo, which will be on show in front of the Palais du Festival. In addition, 15 Twizy vehicles, available to the general public, will be zipping to and fro along the beaches of the Croisette.

Renault celebrates chaplin’s 100th birthday with a futuristic film

For the centenary of Charlie Chaplin’s birth, Renault worked with the movie legend’s grand-daughters, Dolorès and Carmen, on the production of The Innovators, a 12-minute film with a futuristic theme. Part of the film was shot at the Technocentre in Guyancourt, with the actresses travelling in Renault Twizy and the Twin’Z concept car. The film is set to David Bowie’s “Space Oddity”.

Renault, the official fleet of the Cannes Film Festival

Renault is doubling the size of its fleet for this years’ Festival. Some 210 vehicles – 70 Latitude and 140 Espace – will be ferrying stars, organizers and partners daily to the foot of the red carpet. The people from Nestlé, L’Oréal, Air France and other partners will all be riding in Renaults! The general public will also get the chance to try their hands at responsible driving in Renault Twizy, the full-electric quadricycle.

Renault innovates with the “connected car” concept

For the 67th Cannes Film Festival, Renault has joined forces with Orange to provide official fleet passengers with a WiFi connection. They will be able to hook up to the net during their car trips at the Festival via the Domino 4G Airbox, using Orange’s 4G coverage in the region.

New Renault Twingo guest stars on the red carpet

To take full advantage of the 200,000 people attending Cannes from around the world and the festival’s high media profile, Renault is showcasing four New Twingo prototypes. Renault’s new city car changes the game with its looks and rear-mounted engine. One of the prototypes will even be playing a starring role at the foot of the red-carpeted steps of the Palais du Festival throughout the event.

Renault and cinema: over 110 years of mutual attraction

From the first film of the Lumière brothers, showing Auguste Renault at the wheel of his Voiturette Type A, to the first film studios built in Billancourt between 1885 and 1898 alongside Renault’s plants, Renault has enjoyed a special relationship with cinema for more than a century, forging close bonds over that time. Today, 200 television and film productions are shot each year with a special fleet of 40 Renault vehicles.

Renault is a preferred partner of the world’s biggest film festivals, including Lyon, Deauville, Angoulême, Cabourg, Marrakesh and, soon, Venice.

Commenting, Claude Hugot, Head of Public Relations for the Renault-Nissan Alliance, said: “For Renault, the Cannes Film Festival, with its combination of prestige and glamour, has for 31 years played a key role in promoting our new models, viewed in the spotlight of cameras from around the world! This year we are creating a buzz with New Twingo, a car that reflects the innovative and avant-garde spirit sought after by our design teams.”

Official selection of the 2014 Cannes Film Festival

Robert Pattinson, Marion Cotillard, Meryl Streep, and many more, are competing in this year’s edition of the world’s biggest film festival.

The Festival kicks off on May 14 with Olivier Dahan’s film Grace in Monaco starring Nicole Kidman, who will be at Cannes for the screening. Eighteen films are in competition in the official selection, including Jean-Luc Godard’s latest, Goodbye to Language, and Ken Loach’s highly awaited Jimmy’s Hall. Once again, a plethora of stars will be gracing the red carpet, among them Hilary Swank and Meryl Streep (for The Homesman, directed by Tommy Lee Jones), Robert Pattinson and Julianne Moore (David Cronenberg’s Maps to the Stars), Juliette Binoche and Kristen Stewart (Sils Maria by Olivier Assayas), Gaspard Ulliel and Jérémie Rénier (Saint-Laurent by Bertrand Bonello), Bérénice Bejo and Annette Bening (The Search by Michel Hazavanicius) and Marion Cotillard (Two Days, One Night by the Dardenne brothers).
