Τη Ruth Pfau τιμά το doodle της Google

Η Google με το σημερινό της doodle τιμάει τα 90 χρόνια από τη γέννηση της Γερμανίδας καλόγριας Dr. Ruth Pfau, που αφιέρωσε την ζωή της στην εξάλειψη της λέπρας από το Πακιστάν.

Η Dr. Pfau γεννήθηκε το 1929 στη Λειψία της Γερμανίας και πέθανε το 2017 στο Πακιστάν.

Έγινε καλόγρια σε ηλικία 29 ετών μετά από μια συνάντηση με έναν επιζώντα στρατόπεδου συγκέντρωσης.

The personality of the week is Dr.Ruth Pfau. She is known as "Pakistan's Mother Teresa." Ruth Pfau was a German born Pakistani who devoted more than 55 years of her life fighting leprosy in Pakistan. In 1968, she managed to convince the Government Of Pakistan to start a National Leprosy Control Program in corporation with the Marie Adelaide Leprosy Center (MALC). Today, MALC has 157 leprosy control centres and more than eight hundred staff. Dr.Ruth Pfau was very active in the relief operations in the aftermath of 2005 earthquake and the devastating floods in South Western Pakistan in 2010. Επισκέφτηκε το Πακιστάν τη δεκαετία του ’60 και έμεινε εκεί ως το τέλος της ζωής της. Αφιέρωσε πάνω από 50 χρόνια της ζωής της στη μάχη κατά της λέπρας στη χώρα.

Όταν πέθανε σε ηλικία 87 ετών κηδεύτηκε δημοσία δαπάνη στο Καράτσι και εκατοντάδες άνθρωποι την συνόδευσαν στην τελευταία της κατοικία.

#RuthPfau, a #German #doctor and #nun who dedicated her life to eradicating #leprosy in Pakistan and has been described as the country's #MotherTeresa, has today died in #Karachi aged 87. #Pfau trained as a doctor in her youth and went on to join a Catholic sisterhood. She arrived in #Pakistan, where she spent the rest of her life, in 1960. She specialised in the treatment of leprosy, a #disease that causes discolouration of the skin, sores, and disfigurements. Pfau's work earned her the Nishan-e-Quaid-i-Azam, one of Pakistan's highest civilian awards. May her soul rest in peace. انا للّٰہ وانا الیہ راجعون

Ήταν μια τεράστια απώλεια για την ανθρωπότητα. Είναι πολύ δύσκολο να βρεις έναν τέτοιο άνθρωπο στη σημερινή εποχή. Σήμερα όλοι κοιτούν τον εαυτό τους αλλά αυτή δεν το έκανε ποτέ. Είχε μια απλή ζωή και αγαπούσε την ανθρωπότητα.
