Ο Μπεν Στίλερ θέλει τις ΗΠΑ πιο ανοικτές στους πρόσφυγες

Ο αμερικανός ηθοποιός Μπεν Στίλερ, ο οποίος πέρυσι ορίστηκε πρεσβευτής καλής θέλησης της Ύπατης Αρμοστείας του ΟΗΕ για τους Πρόσφυγες (UNHCR), δήλωσε ότι θα ήθελε οι ΗΠΑ να ήταν πιο φιλόξενες στους πρόσφυγες, υπογραμμίζοντας ότι η βοήθεια και η αλληλεγγύη είναι μερικά από τα γνωρίσματα που χαρακτηρίζουν έναν Αμερικανό πολίτη.

«Πρόκειται για την προσφορά

βοήθειας σε ανθρώπους και νομίζω ότι αυτό είναι ένα αμερικανικό γνώρισμα επίσης γιατί ορισμένες αγορές καλοδέχονται πάντα πρόσφυγες και μετανάστες», είπε ο Στίλερ σύμφωνα με το ΑΠΕ- ΜΠΕ σε τηλεφωνική συνέντευξη που κανονίστηκε από τον ΟΗΕ. «Πιστεύω ότι είναι ένα μέρος αυτού που σημαίνει να είσαι Αμερικανός», τόνισε ο ηθοποιός.

Ο Στίλερ ορίστηκε πρεσβευτής καλής θέλησης του ΟΗΕ εν μέσω των επικρίσεων για τη σκληρή μεταναστευτική πολιτική στις ΗΠΑ. Η ανένδοτη στάση του προέδρου Ντόναλντ Τραμπ όσον αφορά την παράτυπη μετανάστευση, στην οποία περιλαμβάνεται το αίτημά του για χρηματοδότηση για την κατασκευή τείχους στα σύνορα με το Μεξικό, ήταν στο επίκεντρο πρόσφατης πολιτικής αντιπαράθεσης στη χώρα.

Ο 53χρονος Μπεν Στίλερ, διάσημος για τους ρόλους σε κωμωδίες όπως «There’s Something About Mary» («Κάτι τρέχει με τη Μαίρη»), «Meet the Parents» («Γαμπρός της Συμφοράς») και «Night in the Museum» («Μια νύχτα στο Μουσείο»), δήλωσε ότι πιστεύει ότι οι άνθρωποι γενικά θέλουν να βοηθούν αλλά η ρητορική του φόβου και του μίσους στέκεται εμπόδιο σε αυτό.

Πρόσφατα ο Μπέν Στίλερ επισκέφθηκε πρόσφυγες στον Λίβανο στο πλαίσιο αποστολής του ΟΗΕ, ενώ πέρυσι τη Γουατεμάλα για να προσελκύσει την προσοχή στην προσφυγική κρίση στην Κεντρική Αμερική.

«Πιστεύω ότι αν οποιοσδήποτε έχει την εμπειρία που έχω και μπορεί να πηγαίνει και να επισκέπτεται αυτούς τους ανθρώπους, να βλέπει αυτές τις καταστάσεις και έχει την ευκαιρία να τους συναντήσει, θα έχει το ίδιο συναίσθημα που έχω και εγώ» υπογράμμισε ο Μπέν Στίλερ.

This is Father Paco who runs the shelter in Guatemala in my previous post. I immediately liked him. He has humility about his work and a wonderful sense of humor. He had to leave to go perform a mass for for his congregation, many who volunteer at the shelter. He’s from Spain but came here to because he told me he’s “old” and doesn’t want to slow down. He said “I want to die like a tree… standing up”. This is a place where people on the move, fleeing gang violence and unsafe living conditions can stop and rest, have food, get clothing and get information as to how they might seek asylum or get to the best border crossing. #withrefugees

Here’s another story from my recent trip to Guatemala with @refugees. The People I met there are dealing with problems that are hard to relate to in a lot of our everyday lives. But the human connections are something we all share. Today with @refugees I loved meeting Yazan and his family. This 8 year old sells vegetables to support his family. They are Syrian Refugees living in the Bekaa Valley near the Syrian border in Lebanon. He has 3 brothers and sisters and has lived in very challenging conditions his whole life. His parents left during shelling in Damascus when he was 4 months old, in the middle of the night through the war zone and bribed a border guard to let them escape into Lebanon. He has been hungry, cold and at risk. He has lived in conditions I can’t imagine, Yet his smile and playfulness are so incredibly vital and beautiful. So happy I got to spend time with him and his wonderful family today. #withrefugees #UNHCR #Lebanon #SyrianRefugees
