Alia Shawkat is an Iraqi-American actress, producer, and artist. Born in Riverside but grew up in Palm Springs, CA, until she was 14 years old when she landed her first breakout role on the TV show “Arrested Development.” Her portrayal of the character, Maeby Fünke, often singled her out for major praise among her all-star cast, winning her the Young Artist Award in 2005 for Best Supporting Actress. The show ran on and off from 2003-2018 and was not only her initial education in comedy but led her to many more projects of which she’s proud. She’s appeared in many films and TV shows like Broad City, Whip It, Portlandia, Transparent and Big Mouth. In 2018 she wrote and starred in her first feature film, Duck Butter, a love story that explores the complexity of intimacy. When she’s not acting or producing, Alia loves to paint and has participated in gallery shows internationally in Paris, Mexico, and Los Angeles
