Πώς μία καλλιτέχνης μεταμορφώνει κατεστραμμένα σπίτια σε έργα τέχνης

Πριν από 4 χρόνια ο τυφώνας «Σάντι» πέρασε από το Rockwave Beach στη Νέα Υόρκη, αφήνοντας πίσω του κατεστραμμένα σπίτι, επιχειρήσεις και αξιοθέατα.

Φέτος το καλοκαίρι, μία καλλιτέχνης από το Βερολίνο, προσπαθεί να υπενθυμίσει στον κόσμο εντός και εκτός Νέας Υόρκης, ότι η καταστροφικές συνέπειες του τυφώνα, είναι ακόμα εκεί.

Ξεκινώντας στις 4 Ιουλίου, η Katharina Grosse θα συμβάλλει στην έκθεση “Rockaway!“ που παρουσιάζει το MoMA και η οποία θα παρουσιαστεί στο Rockwave Peninsula. Εκεί, ο κόσμος θα μπορεί να δει τα κατεστραμμένα κτίρια να μεταμορφώνονται με τη δύναμη του σπρέι.

Το έργο της Grosse θυμίζει το αφιέρωμα που είχε κάνει στον Τυφώνα Κατρίνα το 2008, όταν είχε βάψει με σπρέι ένα κατεστραμμένο σπίτι στο Lower Ninth Ward, χρησιμοποιώντας έντονα χρώματα όπως το πορτοκαλί και το κίτρινο. Φέτος, βρει ένα σπίτι που είναι προς κατεδάφιση κοντά στο Fort Tilden, μία περιοχή που θα αναδιαμορφωθεί.

one of the most iconic buildings in the rockaways are the former aquatics in fort tilden. built when the fort was a military base they have been abandoned for many years and they were already more or less a tear down before hurricane sandy. in autumn they will make way for restoring the natural beach habitat and vegetation in one of new york city's most unique inner city nature reserves directly on the atlantic ocean. protective dunes and vegetation will be there where the ruins are now. nature wins...but i will visit these buildings many times this summer before they're gone
