PM Samaras meets with Lithuanian president Grybauskaite

The talks focused on Greece’s presidency in EU in the first six months of 2014.

Samaras presented Greece’s priorities for the next six months, which are development, employment and cohesion as well as the banking and fiscal union, the tackling of the undocumented migrants’ wave as well as EU policy on maritime policy.

Referring to the Greek economy, the prime minister underlined Greece’s progress not only in the fiscal adjustment

as well as in the restructuring reforms. “We have already met our fiscal adjustment targets and we have proceeded even further given that from 2013 we will have a primary surplus,” noted Samaras and called the state budget, that was ratified last Saturday from the Greek parliament, as the state budget of recovery and hope.

Samaras set as target in the next six months the strengthening of the social policy as well as the security in Europe with deepening and in-parallel the promotion of policies against unemployment.

On her part, the Lithuanian president praised the Greek government’s policy of responsibility to do whatever necessary against the economic crisis and congratulated the Greek people for their sacrifices. Moreover, Grybauskaite estimated that Greece will successfully meet EU presidency’s duties that will contribute to the country’s growth.

Government Vice President and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos and Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras were also present in the meeting.
