Greek trade deficit down 2.3 billion euros in 2013

Greece’s trade deficit shrank to 19.3 billion euros in 2013, down by 2.3 billion euros compared with the previous year, Eurostat said on Tuesday.

The EU executive’s statistics service, in a report released here, said that Greek

exports totalled 27.5 billion euros, unchanged from 2012, while imports totalled 46.9 billion euros in 2013, falling by 5.0 pct from the previous year.

In the EU, Germany recorded the biggest trade surplus (199.6 billion euros), followed by the Netherlands (55.2 billion), while the highest traded deficits were recorded by the UK (84.7 billion), France (76 billion), Greece (19.3 billion) and Spain (16.9 billion).

Imports from China totalled 279.9 billion euros, down 4.0 pct from 2012, imports from Russia fell 4.0 pct to 206.6 billion euros and imports from the US fell by 5.0 pct to 196 billion euros.

EU exports to China totalled 148.1 billion euros (up 3.0 pct), exports to Russia fell 3.0 pct to 119.8 billion and exports to the United States fell 2.0 pct to 288 billion euros.
