Greek stocks end at new 34-month high

Greek stocks ended at a new 34-month high in the Athens Stock Exchange on Friday as strong buying interest for selected blue chip stocks such as Titan, PPC and OPAP

overshadowed selling pressure on bank shares.

The composite index rose 1.68 pct to end at 1,341.24 points, the highest closing since May 17, 2011, after rising by 2.04 pct during the session. The index ended the week with a net gain of 2.35 pct and now stands 15.36 pct higher from the start of the year. Turnover was a heavy 164.07 million euros.

The Large Cap index rose 1.68 pct and the Mid Cap index ended 0.14 pct higher. The Health (4.57 pct), Travel (4.52 pct) and Utilities (4.47 pct) sectors scored the biggest percentage gains of the day, while Banks (1.24 pct), Chemicals (1.11 pct) and Food (0.68 pct) suffered losses. Titan (7.08 pct), PPC (5.37 pct), OPAP (4.83 pct) and Hellenic Exchanges (4.09 pct) were top gainers, while Piraeus Bank (3.02 pct), Alpha Bank (2.11 pct) and Coca-Cola HBC (0.71 pct) suffered heavy losses.

Broadly, advancers led decliners by 87 to 56, with another 27 issues unchanged. Athina (20 pct), Evrofarma (8.76 pct) and Medicon (7.55 pct) were top gainers, while Fieratex (20.83 pct), Hellenic Fish Farms (16.92 pct) and Vioter (15.56 pct) were top losers.
