Greece’s Secret Services not taken by surprise by Ankara’s moves in the Aegean

All units and subunits of NIS (National Intelligence Service – ΕΥΠ), have been disperced throughout the borderline with Turkey in the Aegean Sea, due to President Erdogan’s intentions to conduct seismic surveys within the boundaries of the Greek

Since Ankara’s plans for full escalation in the Aegean Sea were diagnosed, operational ranks of the NIS have been put on high alert in order to gather information which would help the Greek Armed Forces to become better prepared to face any surprising movents on behalf of its neighbor.

Especially in the Greek islands of the Aegean, the ranks of the National Service are said to have performed a wide variety of information gathering missions, by locating both the movements of the Turkish Fleet as well as the movements of the Turkish Armed Forces.

The fact remains that the NAVTEX issued by Turkey for drilling off the Greek island of Kastelorizo ​​and inside the Greek continental shelf, did not took Greece by surprise, as the recently gathered information transmitted to the Greek government spoke of strong movements of the Turkish Fleet.

Specifically, according to some sources, for a month now the NIS had transmitted information in details about the amassement of surface ships at the Aksaz naval base. The information mentioned at least 22 surface ships docked at the naval base, as well as 7 submarines.

The above mentioned data contributed to the Greek Government not being taken by surprise by Erdogan’s movements and at the same time allowing the Greek Armed Forces to be better prepared to face at any time any threat, and in fact with determination.

Moreover, some other sources pinpoint the fact that beacause Ankara’s provocative moves in the Aegean were more or less to be expected, NIS ranks have been reinforced in all the remote areas of the country, both in personnel and in advanced material equipment.
