Europe Pushes Back on Trump Over Diesel: “We Won’t Empty Our Reserves Under Pressure”

Major European countries are coordinating a tougher response to U.S. pressure for a large release of strategic diesel stocks. Britain, France and Germany joined emergency talks aimed at crafting a more “assertive” position toward the Trump administration, which is urging Europe to put large volumes of fuel onto the market while Washington itself weighs possible restrictions on U.S. diesel exports. Europe’s concern is straightforward: emergency reserves should not be used primarily to solve a U.S. domestic price problem if that leaves Europe more exposed to the next energy shock.
