Greeks invest 2.1 bln in newbuilding orders in Jan-Feb 2013

In the January – February 2013 period, Greek players invested a total of USD 2.186 billion in the newbuilding market for a total of 20 vessels. Greeks ordered six bulkers (790.000 dwtUSD 141 mln), seven tanker

vessels (356.800 dwtUSD 204 mln), two LPG carriers (190.000 dwtUSD 415 mln), one liner and two containerships (168.000 dwtUSD 126 mln), according to data released by Golden Destiny.

Greek players have placed orders for a total of ten newbuildings in January 2013 as opposed to 11 in the corresponding period in 2012.

The newbuildings set back Greek owners a total of USD 1.504 billion.

Six tanker vessels (307.800 total dwt) were ordered for a total of USD 204 million. One bulk carrier (82.000 dwt) was also bought along with one liner.

Overall, in the January – February 2013 period owners worldwide invested a total of USD 17.418 billion in the newbuilding market on 69 bulkers (USD 1.1 bln), 58 tankers (USD 2.1 bln), 25 gas carriers (USD 1.4 bln), 23 containerships (USD 2.1 bln) and 3 car carriers (USD 2 bln).
