Venizelos receives Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew

Welcoming the Ecumenical Patriarch, Venizelos referred to his visits to Jerusalem and Rome and to his meeting with the Pope, underlining the peace message that was sent out and the upgraded international position assumed by the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

On his part, the Ecumenical Patriarch said that he is visiting Athens for the second time in five months and, referring to the foreign minister, called him an “old and valuable friend” and wished him success in the government's work.

As regards his recent visits to the Holy Land with the Pope and to the Vatican, he said that “they were important events for the Church and the Ecumenical Patriarchate,” and wished that the efforts made will bring the much-desired peace in the world, the Middle East in particular.
