Greek President Papoulias meets with Rural Development minister

A new programme for the support of 8,500 new farmers will be launched next Tuesday, the Rural Development Minister Athanassios Tsaftaris told the Greek President Karolos Papoulias on Wednesday.

Tsaftaris mentioned the programme was being funded with 140 million euros

and added that 100 new scientists-researchers would be hired to support Rural Development Ministry’s institutions.

“I wanted to discuss all those issues with you, being aware of your sensitivity over youth employment,” the minister told Papoulias.

The Greek President congratulated the minister on the actions he had undertaken, while Tsaftaris informed him that 360 new students signed up this year at the Ioannina Dairy School compared to only 60 who were interested last year.

Tsaftaris also said that the ministry will recruit 300 postgraduate scientists in agricultural sectors as “we must not lose this scientific staff, who will go abroad and will hardly come back home.”

“I totally agree with you,” Papoulias said and asked Tsaftaris to jointly attend an event for new farmers to be organized by the ministry.
