Turkish military exercise east of Cycladic Islands

A Turkish Navy frigate and four missile boats participating in a military exercise in central Aegean, code-named “Beyaz Firtina 2014”, have successively and gradually moved outside the sea region designated for the military exercise and entered the Greek territorial waters in the Cycladic Islands, it was announced on Monday.

Specifically, from the early morning hours until 16:00 hrs, the frigate “Kemal Reis” and missile boats “Meltem”, “Imbat”, Ruzgar” and “Firtina” moved north of the island of Naxos and south of Paros before sailing away east of Santorini.

In all instances, the moves of the Turkish boats were monitored by Greek warships and Air Force aircraft. The Turkish ships that moved outside the designated area and entered the Greek territorial waters were accompanied constantly by Greek Navy ships, while two pairs of Greek F-16s were making overflights.

The Turkish military exercise is carried out in two central Aegean regions east of Cycladic Islands.
