FM Venizelos meets with US Assistant Secretary of State Nuland

US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland on Monday expressed Washington’s support to Greece’s efforts to exit the crisis, after a meeting with Government Vice-President and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos.

Nuland also referred to the long
discussion she had with Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and the American business community in Greece. She stressed that her country fully supported the reforms implemented by the Greek government, aiming at stimulating growth and strengthening investments.

Nuland also referred to her visit to the Microsoft innovation centre, where she met young people who, as she stated, “take Greek economy to the next level”.

The American official made specific reference to Greece’s presidency in the EU, highlighting that it stood as an opportunity to promote US-EU cooperation and welcomed Athens contribution in promoting the Euro-Atlantic dialogue.

Referring to her meeting with Venizelos, Nuland said they discussed both international and regional issues such as the developments in Syria, Iran, support for the negotiations on the Cyprus issue, the situation in Libya, but also important matters such as terrorism and energy which, according to Nuland, was a driving force for growth.
