Port Authority off Gavdos rescues 73 foreigners with the help of Frontex

Seventy-three foreigners on a wooden boat were located and rescued at a sea region 19 nautical miles south of Gavdos island on Thursday, with the coordination provided by the Unified Center for Search & Rescue Coordination (EKSED).

The operation was carried out by a boat of the Port Authority with the help of a drone of Frontex, the European border control agency, which found the boat at the above location. Weather conditions were good, with a northwest wind registering 3 on the Beaufort scale.

The 73 rescued individuals were transferred to the Karave port of Gavdos, where they are expected to go under the expected procedures of identification and health checks.
