Woman Arrested in Serial Homicide Case Involving Three Infants

Police have arrested a 25-year-old woman in western Greece, charging her with the serial homicide of three infants—including her own two children—and the attempted murder of an adult friend, authorities said Tuesday.

The woman, identified as Eirini Mourtzoukou, was arrested on Monday in the city of Amaliada following

a lengthy investigation that has drawn national attention.

The charges against Ms. Mourtzoukou relate to the deaths of her two children, who died in 2022 and 2023 at the ages of 19 days and two months, respectively, as well as the 2021 death of her friend and roommate’s 6-month-old baby

She is also accused of attempting to suffocate an adult female friend.

The case has been a subject of intense media scrutiny in Greece since last August, following the death of a fourth infant in her close circle—a friend’s 15-month-old baby

During the investigation, Ms. Mourtzoukou made several television appearances to speak about the case.

She has been transferred to the Athens Police Headquarters and is expected to be brought before a prosecutor on Tuesday.
