US Travel Site Praises Crete's Lasithi Region for Authenticity

The New York-based travel publication Wonderlust Travel is showcasing the Lasithi region of Crete as a destination of "authenticity and unique beauty," with a special focus on a 3,000-year-old olive tree.

The article by Anthony Grant describes the Monumental Olive Tree of Kavousi, which he notes is over 3,000 years old, has a 47-foot circumference, and still produces olives.

"There must be something in the soil as well as the air around here," Mr. Grant writes, connecting the ancient tree to Lasithi's modern output of 40,000 tons of olive oil annually, which he says is "among the world’s best."

The feature promotes the lesser-known region to an international audience planning to visit the popular Mediterranean island.
