Maria Karystianou, the pediatrician who became the public face of the campaign for justice following the 2023 Tempe train disaster, signaled Friday that she is preparing to formally launch a political party this month, describing May as "historic" for Greece and her movement.

In a video message titled "The Month of Rebirth and Hope,"

Mrs. Karystianou — whose 20-year-old daughter was among the 57 people killed in the head-on collision — urged followers to remain united against what she described as "methodical attempts" by the establishment to divide her base.

Her remarks effectively serve as a pre-announcement for a party expected to debut before the end of May.

"We have begun the process to ensure that the guilty are finally punished," she said, "so that no mother ever has to mourn her child again."

The address follows her April launch of "We Begin — The Independent Citizens' Movement" at xekiname.gr, timed to coincide with the opening of the Tempe criminal trial. Mrs. Karystianou framed her entry into formal politics as a moral obligation, rejecting traditional ideological labels in favor of what she called "cleansing the country" of corruption and systemic failure.

Her emergence as a political figure carries real electoral weight.

Recent polling shows her commanding higher approval ratings than many established party leaders, and analysts say her movement could draw significantly from voters disillusioned with the ruling New Democracy party and a fragmented left opposition that has struggled to consolidate.
