Potential New Tsipras Party Polls at 16% as Ruling Party Maintains Lead

A potential new political party led by former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras would start with 16% of the vote, according to a new poll that shows the ruling New Democracy party maintaining a commanding lead over the opposition.

The survey

by Interview for Political, released Thursday, puts New Democracy at 31.5%, more than double the 15.3% of the second-place PASOK party.

While 80% of respondents said they would not vote for a new party from Mr. Tsipras, the 16% who said they would "definitely or probably" support it gives him a significant starting base should he proceed with his planned political relaunch.

The poll also found that nearly half the public (47%) believes his recent decision to resign from Parliament was the right move.

Other parties in the poll included Greek Solution at 8.2%, Plefsi Eleftherias at 6.9%, and the Communist Party at 6.5%.
