Mail-in voter registration surges ahead of European polls

Greece’s interior Ministry has reported an unprecedented number of registrations for mail-in voting ahead of upcoming European elections.

Over 114,200 voters have registered to vote by mail, a significant increase from last year’s numbers and a clear indicator of a growing trend in electoral participation from abroad, ministry officials said.

They said the number was expected to rise further

as the late April deadline for registration nears.

In Greece, postal voting has seen a substantial rise with 80,908 voters choosing the option over going to the ballot booth.

Ministry officials say Greece’s diaspora has shown strong interest, with a total of 33,350 voters outside the country, mainly in Europe, registering for the mail-in voting.

The June vote markes the first poll allowing Greek expatriates to vote without any residency constraints.

Prospective voters can register at epistoliki.ypes.gov.gr through April 29.
