Greece Announces Strong Budget Surplus, Exceeding Targets

TheGreek government has announced a significant primary budget surplusof €12.011 billion for the first eleven months of 2024, exceedingits target of €9.912 billion and marking a substantial increasecompared to the same period in 2023.

Thisstrong performance is attributed to higher-than-expected state budgetrevenues, which reached €66.721

billion, surpassing the target by€303 million. 

Totalstate budget revenues also exceeded projections, reaching €73.297billion.

Severalfactors contributed to the surplus, including a windfall tax on powerproducers imposed in October, which generated €206 million. 

Additionally,a deferral of defense contract payments also played a role.
