Court Clears Path for Auction of Greek Actress Zoe Laskari’s Jewelry

A Greek court has cleared the way for the long-delayed auction of jewelry belonging to the late iconic actress Zoe Laskari, nearly a year after the sale was initially put on hold.

The decision lifts a freeze on the assets of Laskari’s daughter, Martha Koutoumanou, who inherited the collection and had authorized its sale.

According to gallerist Giorgos Tsagkarakis, who is organizing

the auction, the ruling allows the sale to proceed after legal complications stalled it in November 2024.

“The judiciary opened the way for the public to connect with Zoe Laskari’s aura,” Mr. Tsagkarakis told local television.

“The ruling was issued three days ago, following legal action we initiated in March. It lifts the freeze on both the movable and immovable assets of Martha Koutoumanou.”

Ms. Koutoumanou, the only child of Laskari, had faced restrictions on her accounts, including one receiving pension and royalties.

With the freeze lifted, the auction can now legally take place. Proceeds from the sale will be deposited into her account, with €30,000 required to remain frozen.

Any amount above that threshold will be available to her.

Mr. Tsagkarakis said a date for the auction will be announced soon and that public interest has been significant.

“From my experience, I estimate the jewelry will sell for more than €30,000,” he said. “People have been waiting for this for a long time.”

Zoe Laskari was a household name in Greece during the 1960s and ’70s, known for her roles in classic Greek cinema.

She died in 2017 at the age of 72.
