Athens Opens Its Parks Every Saturday This Summer for Free Fitness Sessions — Including Programmes for Disabled Residents

The city of Athens launches a free weekly outdoor fitness program Saturday, deploying municipal trainers to public parks every Saturday

morning throughout the summer, with sessions specifically designed to include residents with disabilities alongside general fitness classes in Pilates and body conditioning.

The initiative, organized by the city's culture and sports body OPANDA in coordination with the Attica Region, opened Saturday at the Gendarmerie Grove. Mayor Haris Doukas said the program is designed to make structured exercise accessible to every resident regardless of ability or income.

"With this urban training model, we are putting Athens in motion," Mr. Doukas said.

Municipal health desks will operate alongside the training areas, offering basic physical assessments for families participating in the sessions.

The Saturday series moves to Plato's Academy on May 30, Prombona Grove on June 6, and concludes with a multi-discipline event at the National Garden on June 13.

The program is free and open to all residents without registration.
