Athens Intern'l Airport changes to parking as of July, due to new seven-story parking building

The Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" (AIA) will introduce changes in vehicle parking as of July 10, for the start of construction of a seven-story parking building to occupy the space of the current Short Term 1 parking lot, it said on Friday.

The new building

will accomodate 3,365 cars and have a total surface area of 98,000 square meters. Below is an outline of what car and motorcycle owners should know.

Cars

As of July 10, the Short Term 1 parking functions will be moved into the Long Term parking space, around the Pedestrian Bridge leading to the Main Terminal.

Signs will be placed on Attiki Odos highway to guide drivers to the new Short Term 1 space. The electronic signage will indicate the available parking spaces at Short Term 1 & 2 and at the Long Term parking lots, in real time. Entry and exit will use a single ticket, payable at the automated machines for Short Term 1, found near the escalators by the Pedestrian Bridge, or only by card at the exit from Short Term 1.

Electric chargers will be transferred to the new Short Term 1 space. Parking slots for the disabled currently in Short Term 1 will be moved to Short Term 2, for direct access to the Main Terminal building.

In the new Short Term 1, prices will remain the same and allowed time will be extended to 30 minutes instead of 20. The new Short Term 1 is 5 minutes away (on foot) from the Main Terminal.

As the current Short Term 1 parking space will shut down, vehicle owners must remove their cars by midnight on July 10, otherwise they will be towed.

Additionally, the new Short Term 1 and 2 will continue to operate without the option of online reservations, which are only available for Economy, Long Term, or Valet parking choices.

Motorcycles

Parking for motorcycles at Short Term 1 and outside will NOT be available as of July 3 (third).

Motorcycles may park for free at the new space within the specially set space within Long Term parking, with a separate entrance for easier access.

Motorcycles, scooters, etc that are not removed by their owners by midnight on July 3 will be towed.
