Eπιστολή προς Τατάρ για απόσυρση Τουρκοκυπριακής πλευράς από το «Imagine»

Πρωτοβουλία Ν. Κιζίλγιουρεκ- Η Πρόεδρος της Επιτροπής Παιδείας και Πολιτισμού του ΕΚ απέστειλε καταδικαστική επιστολή προς Τατάρ σχετικά με απόσυρση από το πρόγραμμα «Imagine»

Μετά από πρωτοβουλία του Ευρωβουλευτή του ΑΚΕΛ Νιαζί Κιζίλγιουρεκ η πρόεδρος της Επιτροπής Παιδείας και Πολιτισμού απέστειλε επιστολή προς τον κ. Τατάρ σχετικά με την απόσυρση της Τουρκοκυπριακής

πλευράς από το πρόγραμμα «Imagine». Αυτή κοινοποιήθηκε στην Επίτροπο Συνοχής και Μεταρρυθμίσεων κ. Ελίζα Φερείρα και τον  Ειδικό Αντιπρόσωπο του ΓΓ του ΟΗΕ κ. Κόλιν Στιούαρτ

Το θέμα έθεσε ο ευρωβουλευτής Νιαζί Κιζίλγιουρεκ στην συνεδρία των συντονιστών της Επιτροπής Παιδείας και Πολιτισμού  και η επιστολή έτυχε της υποστήριξης του συνόλου των πολιτικών ομάδων της Επιτροπής.

Στην Επιστολή της η Πρόεδρος κ. Verheyen εκφράζει τη λύπη της Επιτροπής για αυτή την κατάσταση και καλεί την τουρκοκυπριακή πλευρά να ανακαλέσει την απόφαση της και να αποκαταστήσει την πολιτική υποστήριξη για τη συνέχιση του προγράμματος. Η Πρόεδρος «εκφράζει την πολιτική υποστήριξη» της Επιτροπής Παιδείας και Πολιτισμού και καταγράφει τρεις λόγους που ενθαρρύνει την συνέχιση του προγράμματος.

«Πρώτον, η εκπαιδευτική αλληλεπίδραση μεταξύ των νεότερων γενεών και των δασκάλων τους είναι απαραίτητη για την προώθηση της προσέγγισης και της ενσυναίσθησης μεταξύ των κοινοτήτων σε περιοχές συγκρούσεων. Η συνάφεια του προγράμματος μεγαλώνει δεδομένου ότι τα προβλήματα στην Κύπρο παραμένουν άλυτα ενώ δεν υπάρχει επί του παρόντος διαπραγματευτική διαδικασία.

Δεύτερον, τα κοινά, δικοινοτικά έργα στην Κύπρο έχουν αποδειχθεί επιτυχημένα στην καθιέρωση ουσιαστικής επαφής και συνεργασίας μεταξύ Ελληνοκυπρίων και Τουρκοκυπρίων και γενικά θεωρούνται εξαιρετικά σημαντικά για την προετοιμασία του εδάφους για μια συνολική λύση του Κυπριακού και τη μελλοντική βιώσιμη εφαρμογή του.

Τρίτον, η Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση υποστηρίζει και χρηματοδοτεί συνεχώς προγράμματα που στοχεύουν στη συμφιλίωση και την οικοδόμηση εμπιστοσύνης μεταξύ των δύο κοινοτήτων, κάτι που αποτελεί βασικό στόχο του προγράμματος «Imagine». Υπό αυτή την ιδιότητα, η ΕΕ ενδιαφέρεται βαθιά για την επιτυχία όλων των συμπληρωματικών προσπαθειών που συμβάλλουν στην ειρήνη.»

Καταλήγοντας στην επιστολή της η κ. Verheyen προτρέπει και πάλι την ηγεσία της τουρκοκυπριακής κοινότητας να επαναρχίσει το εκπαιδευτικό πρόγραμμα «Imagine» το συντομότερο δυνατό.

Dear Mr Tatar,

It has come to the attention of the Committee on Culture and Education of the European

Parliament that one of the most successful bi-communal programmes in Cyprus is not being

implemented during the school year 2022-23 because the current leadership of the Turkish

Cypriot community has suspended its participation in the programme.

Our Committee regrets this state of affairs. It urges the Turkish Cypriot leadership to reverse

its decision and to restore the necessary political support for the continuation of the programme.

It also calls on all sides involved in the programme to work productively so that they can find

ways to maintain the programme despite the current obstacles.

The Committee is aware that the ‘Imagine’ project is an educational programme aimed at

increasing contacts between the two communities in Cyprus so as to counter racism, promoting

a culture of peace, understanding and non-violence. We are informed that the programme has

been implemented successfully in Cyprus since 2017 and that by 2022, 6117 students,

accompanied by 714 teachers from both sides of the pide had participated in this programme.

The programme has been implemented by the Association for Historical Dialogue and

Research and the Home for Cooperation under the auspices of the Bi-communal Technical

Committee on Education. It is funded by the Federal Foreign Office of the Republic of

Germany. The project is also supported by the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus

(UNFICYP) and the UN Office of the Special Advisor (OASG). The official participation of

the leaderships of the two communities in the programme is a prerequisite for its

implementation.

With this letter, the Committee provides its political support and encouragement for the

continuation of the programme in view of the information it has received as stated above and

for the reasons outlined below.

First, educational interaction among younger generations and their teachers is essential for the

promotion of rapprochement and empathy among communities in areas of conflict. The

pertinence of the programme grows given that the problems in Cyprus remain unresolved while

there is currently no ongoing process of negotiations.

Second, joint, bi-communal projects in Cyprus have proven successful in establishing

meaningful contact and cooperation among Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots and are

generally considered to be immensely significant in preparing the ground for a comprehensive

solution of the Cyprus problem and its future viable implementation.Third, the European Union has constantly supported and funded programmes that aim for

reconciliation and confidence building between the two communities, which is a key objective

of the ‘Imagine’ programme. In this capacity, the EU is deeply interested in the success of all

complementary efforts contributing to peace.

In view of all this, I urge you to do everything possible so that this educational programme,

‘Imagine’ recommences as soon as possible.
