Μετά την χθεσινή διαρροή των πρώτων πληροφοριών του MINI John Cooper Works από την Αυστραλία, η βρετανική εταιρία παρουσίασε επίσημα πριν λίγα λεπτά την πιο καυτή έκδοση του MINI Cooper. Σχεδιαστικά βασίζεται στο John Cooper Works concept που είχε είχε παρουσιάσει η MINI στο Detroit, έχοντας χάσει λίγο από την εντυπωσιακή του εμφάνιση,

παραμένοντας όμως ιδιαίτερα επιθετικό και δυναμικό.

Η σχεδίαση του αμαξώματος έχει σχεδιαστεί για την μέγιστη αεροδυναμική απόδοση, με το μοντέλο να φορά νέο εμπρός προφυλακτήρα με μεγάλους αεραγωγούς για ψύξη των μηχανικών μερών, που καταλαμβάνουν το χώρο που στον οποίο υπάρχουν οι προβολείς ομίχλης στο 3-θυρο MINI. Ακόμα, διαθέτει διακριτικές πλαϊνές ποδιές, νέο πίσω προφυλακτήρα με διαχύτη και John Cooper Works αεροτομή. Επίσης, διαθέτει LED φωτιστικά σώματα, διάφορα John Cooper Works λογότυπα και γραφικά πάνω στο αμάξωμα, σπορ σύστημα εξάτμισης με νέες απολήξεις, ενώ ένα νέο πράσινο χρώμα διατίθεται αποκλειστικά για το συγκεκριμένο μοντέλο.

Έχει μήκος 3.874 χλστ., πλάτος 1.727 χλστ., ύψος 1.414 χλστ., με το μεταξόνιο του να μένει απαράλλαχτο στα 2.495 χλστ., ενώ ζυγίζει 1.205 κιλά χωρίς οδηγό, ενώ 15 κιλά βαρύτερή είναι η έκδοση με το αυτόματο κιβώτιο, κάτι που συνολικά σημαίνει ότι είναι 100 κιλά λιγότερα από τον προκάτοχο του. Μηχνικά το John Cooper Works κινείται από έναν τετρακύλινδρο, δίλιτρο TwinPower Turbo κινητήρα που αποδίδει 231 ίππους μεταξύ 5.200 και 6.000 σ.α.λ. και 320 Nm ροπής από τις 1.250 έως και τις 4.800 σ.α.λ. και είναι ο ισχυρότερος που έχει τοποθετηθεί σε μοντέλο της βρετανικής εταιρίας. Όταν συνδυάζεται με το χειροκίνητο 6-τάχυτο κιβώτιο, το κορυφαίο MINI πιάνει τα 100 km/h από στάση σε 6.3 δευτερόλεπτα ενώ με το αυτόματο 6-τάχυτο, η ίδια διαδικασία με το αυτόματο απαιτεί 0.2 δευτερόλεπτα λιγότερα. Η τελική του ταχύτητα φτάνει τα 246 χλμ/ώρα και με τα δύο κιβώτια, με την μέση κατανάλωση του MINI JCW με το χειροκίνητο κιβώτιο να αγγίζει τα 6.7 λίτρα βενζίνης ανά 100 χιλιόμετρα και εκπομπές CO2 στα 155 γρ/χλμ, ενώ με το αυτόματο καταναλώνει 5.7 λίτρα ανά 100 χιλιόμετρα εκπέμποντας 133 γρ/χλμ.

Όσον αφορά στα υπόλοιπα μηχανικά και όχι μόνο, το JCW πατάει σε ζάντες ελαφρού κράματος 17 ιντσών, με ελαστικά 205/45 –με τις 18άρες να προσφέρονται στον προαιρετικό εξοπλισμό- που κρύβουν τα φρένα της Brembo. Στο τομέα της ανάρτησης, στον εμπρός άξονα υπάρχουν γόνατα MacPherson, ενώ πίσω άξονα πολλαπλών συνδέσμων. Η κίνηση περνάει στον δρόμο από τον εμπρός άξονα μέσω ενός ηλεκτρονικού διαφορικού, ενώ με το ανάλογο επιπλέον κόστος, οι πελάτες μπορούν να τοποθετήσουν ηλεκτρονικά ρυθμιζόμενες αναρτήσεις.

Όσον αφορά στον εσωτερικό διάκοσμο, την παράσταση κλέβουν το τριάκτινο τιμόνι, τα αλουμινένια πεντάλ, ο ελαφρώς διαφορετικός πίνακας οργάνων και ο νέος λεβιές, ενώ υπάρχει και LED κρυφός φωτισμός.
