Βραβείο Pritzker 2020: Σε δύο γυναίκες το «Νόμπελ Αρχιτεκτονικής»

Οι Ιρλανδές Ιβόν Φάρελ (Yvonne Farrell ) και Σέλεϊ Μακναμάρα (Shelley McNamara), συνιδρύτριες του αρχιτεκτονικού γραφείου Grafton Architects του Δουβλίνου -ιδρύθηκε το 1978-, είναι οι κάτοχοι του φετινού Pritzker Architecture Prize.

the honor to their growing list of awards including the RIBA Gold Medal, announced last year. The pair were also Artistic Directors for the 2018 Venice Biennale. . “Architecture could be described as one of the most complex and important cultural activities on the planet,” remarked Farrell. “To be an architect is an enormous privilege. Το βραβείο, το οποίο καθιερώθηκε το 1979, είναι ένα από τα σημαντικότερα παγκοσμίως που δίνονται σε ζώντα αρχιτέκτονα για το σύνολο του έργου του, και οι κυρίες Φάρελ και Μακναμάρα είναι η τέταρτη και η πέμπτη γυναίκα αρχιτέκτονας που το λαμβάνει, ενώ είναι οι πρώτες Ιρλανδές που βραβεύονται με αυτό.

Η φετινή επιτροπή αναφέρθηκε σε αυτές ως «πρωτοπόρους σε έναν τομέα ο οποίος παραδοσιακά ελέγχεται από άντρες και είναι ακόμη και σήμερα ένα επάγγελμα κυριαρχούμενο από άντρες», αλλά και ως «φάρους για άλλους, καθώς σφυρηλατούν την παραδειγματική επαγγελματική διαδρομή τους».

Το ζεύγος των αρχιτεκτονισσών έχει ολοκληρώσει κτήρια σε όλο τον κόσμο.

Το 2008, κέρδισαν το βραβείο για το World Building of the Year με το Universita Luigi Bocconi στο Μιλάνο και το RIBA International Prize με το University Campus UTEC Lima στο Περού. Το 2018, ήταν οι διευθύντριες της Μπιενάλε Αρχιτεκτονικής της Βενετίας.

Το βραβείο, όπως τόνισε η επιτροπή, δεν δόθηκε στις δύο αρχιτεκτόνισσες για το σύνολο του έργου τους μόνον, αλλά και για το πώς λειτουργούν το αρχιτεκτονικό γραφείο τους και «τη γενναιοδωρία τους προς τους συναδέλφους τους».

«Μέσα στο ήθος ενός επαγγέλματος σαν το δικό μας, έχουμε τόσες φορές προσπαθήσει σκληρά να βρούμε χώρο για την εφαρμογή αξιών όπως ανθρωπισμός, τέχνη, γενναιοδωρία και πολιτισμική διασύνδεση με κάθε μέρος και περιβάλλον στο οποίο εργαζόμαστε» είπε η Σέλεϊ Μακναμάρα.
