Next Wednesday we celebrate the 99th birthday of HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh who was born June 10, 1921 at Mon Repos,

Corfu, Kingdom of Greece. Philip was born into the Greek and Danish royal families. He was born in Greece, but his family was exiled from the country when he was an infant. After being educated in France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, he joined the British Royal Navy in 1939, aged 18. From July 1939, he began corresponding with the 13-year-old Princess Elizabeth, whom he had first met in 1934. During the Second World War he served with distinction in the Mediterranean and Pacific Fleets. Τα 99α γενέθλιά του έχει σήμερα ο πρίγκιπας Φίλιππος, Δούκας του Εδιμβούργου και σύζυγος της βασίλισσας Ελισάβετ και το παλάτι του Μπάκιγχαμ έδωσε στη δημοσιότητα μία -σπάνια πλέον- φωτογραφία του ζεύγους για να γιορτάσει την επέτειο και φυσικά να δείξει ότι και οι δύο είναι καλά στην υγεία τους.

Ο πρίγκιπας Φίλιππος, δούκας του Εδιμβούργου, γεννήθηκε με τον τίτλο Φίλιππος της Ελλάδος και της Δανίας, στις 10 Ιουνίου 1921, στο παλάτι Μον Ρεπό στην Κέρκυρα.

 Η γαλαζοαίματη καταγωγή και η γνωριμία με την Ελισάβετ

Είναι ο μοναδικός γιος του πρίγκιπα Ανδρέα της Ελλάδος και της πριγκίπισσας Αλίκης de Battenberg. Είναι κατά συνέπεια εγγονός του βασιλιά Γεωργίου 1ου της Ελλάδας, ο οποίος δολοφονήθηκε το 1913, και εξάδελφος των βασιλέων Γεωργίου II και Παύλου 1ου της Ελλάδας.
