Νέο αρχιτεκτονικό κόσμημα στην καρδιά του Μανχάταν

Ένα νέο πολιτιστικό κέντρο-κόσμημα απέκτησε το Μανχάταν. Τα νεοϋορκέζικα αρχιτεκτονικά γραφεία Diller Scofidio + Renfro και Rockwell Group ολοκλήρωσαν το The Shed, στις Hudson Yards, το οποίο έχει συρόμενη στέγη που μπορεί να μετακινηθεί για να δώσει έναν χώρο για κάθε είδους περφόρμανς.

Με εμβαδόν 18.500 τετραγωνικά, το The Shed είναι χώρος προσέλκυσης φιλότεχνων στο βόρειο τμήμα του Τσέλσι στη Νέα

Υόρκη, και εντάσσεται στο πλαίσιο της ανάπτυξης των Hudson Yards. Το κέντρο, που εγκαινιάστηκε στις αρχές του μήνα, βλέπει την ογκώδη δομή-«γλυπτό», το The Vessel –αμφιλεγόμενο, για πολλούς– του Τόμας Χέδεργουικ.

Το The Shed’s Bloomberg Building –όπως είναι η πλήρης επωνυμία του– θέλει να είναι ευέλικτο. Έχει τη δυνατότητα να «μεταμορφωθεί» ανάλογα με τις ανάγκες και απαιτήσεις των καλλιτεχνών που θα χρησιμοποιούν τον χώρο.

«Μια νέα ομάδα καλλιτεχνών θα έλθουν μέσα και θα βρουν καινούργιους τρόπους να χρησιμοποιήσουν το κτίριο, τρόπους που δεν φανταστήκαμε» δήλωσε σχετικά η συνιδρύτρια του Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Ελίζαμπεθ Ντίλερ, σύμφωνα με το ΑΠΕ. «Καθώς θ’ αρχίσουν να το χρησιμοποιούν, θα κουβεντιάζουν (το σχέδιο του κτηρίου) και θα βουν έναν σωρό διαφορετικά πράγματα να κάνουν» πρόσθεσε.

Επιπλέον, το The Shed έπρεπε να φιλοξενεί διάφορα είδη τεχνών κάτω από μία στέγη. Γι’ αυτή τη διάσταση του εγχειρήματος, η Ντίλερ τόνισε ότι οι τέχνες στη Νέα Υόρκη είναι απομονωμένες η μία από την άλλη: visual art, περφόρμανς, χορός, θέατρο, μουσική. Αυτός δεν είναι ο τρόπος με τον οποίο σκέφτονται οι καλλιτέχνες σήμερα. Αλλά, και τι θα συμβαίνει αύριο; Πώς θα σκέφτονται οι καλλιτέχνες μετά από μία δεκαετία, μετά από δύο, μετά από τρεις; Η μοναδική απάντηση είναι, δεν μπορούμε να ξέρουμε.

Before Hudson Yards opens to the public tomorrow, we're taking a look back at original studies for the interface between The Shed & 15 Hudson Yards residential tower. In the final design, The Shed docks into the base of the residential tower, which is framed by limestone and structurally supported by a sculptural stainless steel "strap."
