Ένα νέο διεθνές βραβείο αρχιτεκτονικής τοπίου

Ένα νέο διεθνές βραβείο αρχιτεκτονικής τοπίου που θεσπίστηκε από αμερικανικό ίδρυμα θα δίδεται κάθε δύο χρόνια από το 2021 και θα συνοδεύεται από οικονομικό έπαθλο 100.000 δολαρίων, κατά το πρότυπο του βραβείου αρχιτεκτονικής Pritzker.

Το νέο βραβείο που θα φέρει το όνομα της Καναδής Cornelia Hahn Oberlander, (Κορνήλια Χαν Όμπερλαντερ) μιας από τις πιο διακεκριμένες αρχιτέκτονες τοπίου του 20ου αιώνα, θεσπίστηκε από το The Cultural Landscape Foundation, μια μη κυβερνητική οργάνωση που ιδρύθηκε το 1998 και έχει την έδρα της στην Ουάσινγκτον.

After graduating, Oberlander worked with Louis Kahn and Oscar Stonorov in Philadelphia, and landscape architect Dan Kiley in Vermont, before moving to Vancouver to establish her own landscape architecture practice in 1953. Within her work, Oberlander applies her technical expertise in conjunction with her concern for the cultural, social, economic and environmental context associated with each project. Cornelia Oberlander's early professional years were devoted to designing landscapes for low-cost housing projects and playgrounds throughout Canada, including the Children's Creative Centre for EXPO 67 in Montréal. Τα διασημότερα έργα της Όμπερλαντερ είναι στο Βανκούβερ – όπως το Μουσείο Ανθρωπολογίας και η πλατεία Ρόμπσον – αλλά και στη Νέα Υόρκη όπου σχεδίασε τον περίβολο της έδρας των New York Times ή εντός των πρεσβειών του Καναδά, συγκεκριμένα στο Βερολίνο και στην Ουάσινγκτον.

Η αρχιτέκτονας τοπίου που διατηρεί την ενεργητικότητά της παρά τη μεγάλη ηλικία της προέρχεται από οικογένεια που διέφυγε από τη ναζιστική Γερμανία για να εγκατασταθεί στις ΗΠΑ το 1938.

Όπως αναφέρει το ΑΠΕ, η Όμπερλαντερ, είναι μια από τις πρώτες γυναίκες που θα γίνουν δεκτές το 1944 στη Σχολή Σχεδίου του Χάρβαρντ, όπου θα παρακολουθήσει κυρίως τα μαθήματα ενός άλλου Γερμανού, του Βάλτερ Γκρόπιους, ιδρυτή του κινήματος Bauhaus.

Στο Χάρβαρντ επίσης θα γνωρίσει και τον μέλλοντα σύζυγό της, τον αρχιτέκτονα και πολεοδόμο Πίτερ Όμπερλαντερ, τον οποίο θα ακολουθήσει το 1953 στο Βανκούβερ.

Μαθαίνοντας, για τη θέσπιση ενός διεθνούς βραβείου που θα φέρει το όνομά της, η Όμπερλαντερ δήλωσε ότι ελπίζει αυτό να «προτρέψει τους αρχιτέκτονες τοπίου να καινοτομούν, να φέρνουν καινούργιες ιδέες και να είναι πρωτοστάτες της κοινότητάς τους».

Η αρχιτεκτονική τοπίου βρίσκεται στην ιδανική θέση για να ανταποκριθεί στις περιβαλλοντικές, κοινωνικές και οικολογικές προκλήσεις που αντιμετωπίζουμε», δήλωσε στον πρόεδρο του ιδρύματος, όταν την επισκέφθηκε στο σπίτι της για να της ανακοινώνει το νέο.

Η θέσπιση του νέου βραβείου γίνεται 40 χρόνια έπειτα από αυτήν του βραβείου Pritzker το 1979, το οποίο θεωρείται το «Νόμπελ αρχιτεκτονικής».
