«Year of the Monkey» το νέο βιβλίο της Patti Smith

To «Year of the Monkey (Χρονιά του Πιθήκου)» αποτελεί το καινούργιο βιβλίο απομνημονευμάτων της Patti Smith και η κυκλοφορία του αναμένεται να ξεκινήσει στις 24 Σεπτεμβρίου από τις εκδόσεις Knopf.

Σε αφήγηση της Πάτι Σμιθ, ο αναγνώστης θα διαβάσει λεπτομέρειες για το έτος του 2016, την χρονιά μετά τις εμφανίσεις της σε συναυλίες στη Νέα Υόρκη και στο Fillmore στο Σαν Φρανσίσκο.

This is the cover of Year of the Monkey. I began writing it on New Year’s Day, 2016 in cafes, trains and strange motels by the sea, with no particular design, until page by page it became a book. «Αυτό είναι το εξώφυλλο του βιβλίου «Year of the Monkey». Άρχισα να το γράφω την πρωτοχρονιά του 2016, σε καφέ, σε τρένα και σε παράξενα μοτέλ κοντά στη θάλασσα, χωρίς να έχω κατά νου κάποιο συγκεκριμένο σχέδιο, έως ότου σελίδα τη σελίδα έγινε βιβλίο», έγραψε η Πάτι στον λογαριασμό της στο Instagram. «Είμαι πολύ ενθουσιασμένη που έχω καινούργια δουλειά να ανακοινώσω!».

Το 2010 είναι η χρονιά που σηματοδοτεί τα πρώτα της απομνημονεύματα, μια σπαρακτική αφήγηση της ζωής της αλλά και της σχέσης της με τον εκλιπόντα καλλιτέχνη Ρόμπερτ Μέιπλθορπ, με τίτλο «Just Kids («Πάτι και Ρόμπερτ», στην ελληνική έκδοση)» ενώ το δεύτερο με τίτλο «M Train», κυκλοφόρησε το 2015.

This is the book that has been chosen as the winner of the One Book/One New York competition. Thank you for all the support. I am posting my statement below: When Robert Mapplethorpe and I stepped from Brooklyn to Manhattan, a half century ago, we were empty-handed yet possessed a vision of how we wished to evolve as artists and human beings. New York was the city that welcomed and formed us, was emblematic of our struggles and successes. It is moving to imagine that our story will represent, through One Book/ One New York, the countless stories of those who come to our diverse and complex city, with dreams of their own. Robert would be as happy as I am to achieve this recognition, especially grateful that the book has been chosen by the same readers for whom it was written. .

Αυτή τη στιγμή η θρυλική καλλιτέχνης βρίσκεται εν μέσω περιοδείας και η άφιξή της στην Ευρώπη αναμένεται αγωνιωδώς από τους χιλιάδες θαυμαστές της.

«Θέλω να ακούω τα παλιά τραγούδια του Νιλ Γιανγκ, όταν τον βλέπω» είχε πει πέρυσι, στο περιοδικό Rolling Stone, η Πάτι Σμιθ. «Αν ο κόσμος θέλει να ακούσει το “Because the Night” για δισχιλιοστή φορά, θα τους το δώσω μόνο αν μπορώ να τους το δώσω με πραγματικό ενθουσιασμό. Δεν πρόκειται να προσποιηθώ. Αν καταφέρω να βρω τον δρόμο στην αρχική παρόρμηση που με έκανε να το γράψω, θα το τραγουδήσω» είχε δηλώσει, προειδοποιώντας τους θαυμαστές της για κάθε ενδεχόμενο.

When I was a teenager, the disc James Brown Live at the Apollo continually spun. I never thought that one day I would sing on the same stage. With drummer,musical director Steve Jordan,Tom Barney on bass, Lenny Kaye, and Tony Shanahan on piano,I was given the opportunity to perform Pissing in the River. One song. One emotional moment. One great night in Harlem.
