Zero-emission trucks: Making the transition happen

In this third short video, Martin Lundstedt, Chair of ACEA’s Commercial Vehicle Board and CEO of Volvo Group, explains what is needed in terms of infrastructure for zero-emission trucks to make the transition to carbon-neutral transport system happen.

“Trucks are

not big cars. They have very specific requirements and specific needs for charging and refuelling infrastructure,” said Mr Lundstedt. “Locations and space requirements are completely different, as well as the power output levels needed.”

The lack of a clear understanding of this key difference, and lack of vision in deploying truck-specific infrastructure, risk holding us back. Member states must urgently commit to enable the investments in the right infrastructure for trucks, right across the EU.

Zero-emission vehicles will not be the bottleneck in the transition to climate neutrality. All stakeholders absolutely need to work together and in parallel on the availability of infrastructure. Indeed, no transport operator will ever buy a battery-electric or hydrogen-powered truck unless they can re-charge or re-fuel it for smooth and seamless operations.
