Το ινδικό νεκροταφείο στη Θεσσαλονίκη επισκέφθηκε, την Κυριακή (08/09), ο υπουργός Εμπορίου και Βιομηχανίας της Ινδίας Hardeep Singh Puri, ο οποίος και συμμετείχε σε τελετή στη μνήμη των στρατιωτών της χώρας του που είναι θαμμένοι εκεί.

ως επικεφαλής της ινδικής αντιπροσωπείας στην 84η Διεθνή Έκθεση Θεσσαλονίκης, όπου η Ινδία είναι η τιμώμενη χώρα, εκφράζει τη συγκίνησή του για την επίσκεψη στον «τελευταίο τόπο ανάπαυσης» των Ινδών στρατιωτών που ήρθαν στην πόλη το 1914 για να υπηρετήσουν για λογαριασμό του αγγλικού στόλου στη διάρκεια του Α’ Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου.

«Συγκινήθηκα που είδα πώς οι στρατιώτες μας ήρθαν τόσο μακριά και έδωσαν τη ζωή τους, παρά το γεγονός ότι δεν γνώριζαν ίσως ούτε καν τον σκοπό για τον οποίο πολεμούσαν», σημειώνει – μεταξύ άλλων – ο ινδός υπουργός.

«Να ενισχύσουμε τη σχέση με μια πολύ ισχυρότερη οικονομική, εμπορική και επενδυτική συνεργασία», είπε η ινδή πρέσβης για τη ΔΕΘ.
