Port employees hold rally against OLP shares sale

The Port Employees Federation of Greece (OMYLE) and the Union of Piraeus Port’s Dockers and the Association of Supervisors and Chief Workmen on Tuesday hold a four-hour work stoppage to protest against the sale of a stake in Piraeus Port Authority (OLP).

Workers will walk off their jobs between 11.00 and 15.00. The will hold

a rally at 11.30 at Karaiskaki square in Piraeus and a march towards the Shipping Ministry.

“The government and the country’s privatization agency TAIPED, as loyal assignees of foreign monopolies and of local interests that are affiliated to them, have ignored the massive social reactions and have proceeded to a call of interest for the sale of OLP’s share capital,” port employees said in a joint statement.

Main opposition SYRIZA’s shipping sector said in a statement that the launch of the sale of OLP’s shares by TAIPED clearly shows the mockery of OLP’s workers by government’s deputies, as the MPs were assuring them they would not be affected by the sale.
