Larissa farmers block national highway in central Greece

Hundreds of farmers on foot blocked the national highway at Larissa, central Greece on Thursday afternoon, responding to a call for a rally made by their colleagues at the Nikaia roadblock. The road block is on the main north-south artery linking Athens with the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki and effectively "cuts the country in two".

Farmers expressed disappointment after being informed that a meeting between their representatives and Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras was not successful. Farmers said they would give their “response” with today’s protest and the blocking of the highway for two hours.
