AMI Auto Mobil International will not be held in 2016

(02/22/2016) In recent days, numerous exhibitors cancelled their trade fair attendance, which had already been booked by way of a contract. For this reason, Leip-ziger Messe and the Verband der Internationalen Kraftfahrzeughersteller (VDIK e.V.) have made the decision not to host AMI 2016. The new mobility 2016 trade fair and the “Alternative Engines” convention of the VDIK will go head on the Leipzig exhibition grounds as planned.

“Together with the VDIK, we worked hard for many months to prepare an attractive AMI 2016 experience. Until a few days ago, registrations for this event were at the level of AMI 2014, and we were confident that this would be a successful trade fair – even though major large-volume manufacturers did not want to attend and the exhibition space was significantly reduced,” says Martin Buhl-Wagner, Managing Director of Leipziger Messe.

He adds: “But in the last few days, we witnessed an unprecedented turn of events: In quick succession, many car manufacturers decided to cancel their trade fair participation. Unfortunately, this leaves us with no choice but to cancel this year’s AMI event. It is particularly in view of the many car enthusiasts and AMI fans in central Germany that we very much regret having to make this decision.”

At the beginning of February, 22 car manufacturers with 27 brands had registered to attend AMI 2016. To date, 13 car manufacturers with 17 brands have withdrawn their participation in the automotive trade fair. VDIK President Volker Lange on the reasons: “At present, many car manufacturers are developing new sales and marketing strategies that also include alternative communication concepts. Because of these developments, the absence of other competitors and the resulting reduction in the exhibition space, many manufacturers reviewed their commitment to AMI 2016 and decided to cancel their participation.”

Trade fair chief Martin Buhl-Wagner continues to look ahead: “The issue of mobility will continue to play an important role in Leipziger Messe’s plans both this year and in future years.” new mobility 2016 – the trade fair for future mobility in the connected infrastructures of cities and regions, which spans across transport carriers – will be held from 12 -13 April. Trade fair visitors can expect a first-class convention programme and concurrent exhibition on the issue of “rethinking mobility”. The VDIK convention “Alternative Engines”, which strives to answer the question of what will drive us tomorrow, is also scheduled to take place on 12 April.
