ZURICH – Cadillac has launched the all-new 2015 ATS Coupe, a quicker and more personal addition to the multiple award-winning ATS product line. Designed to be light, agile and engaging, it extends Cadillac’s product-driven growth and the brand’s tradition of exciting premium coupes.

“The ATS Coupe is an important addition to the Cadillac portfolio and we expect it to attract new and especially younger customers because of its emotional appeal,” said Thomas Sedran, President and Managing Director, Cadillac and Chevrolet Europe. “We strongly believe the ATS Coupe has the right credentials to attract this target group.”

The coupe is being launched into the European market in style. Its aggressive stance immediately attracts the eye, its efficiency, convenience, connectivity and power win over the mind while the refined external and interior elegance and sheer pleasure of driving appeal to the emotions.

Boasting wider front and rear tracks than the sedan, the ATS Coupe is enhanced by short overhangs and sheet metal that wrap tautly around the tires. It is propelled by an upgraded 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine and takes advantage of its lightweight and strong structure to deliver exhilarating performance.

The coupe is low, wide and lean, giving it a dynamic presence on the road. Its spirited performance is the result of a near 50/50 weight distribution, the extensive use of lightweight materials and the upgraded 2.0L turbocharged engine, which delivers nearly 14 percent more torque than the sedan version. The resultant 400 Nm of torque means greater pulling power for a greater feeling of responsiveness at low speeds, and helps the ATS Coupe achieve an estimated 0-100 time of 5.8 seconds.

“More power with less weight is always a better combination for performance and the ATS Coupe offers one of the best power-to-weight ratios in the segment, making it feel lighter, more direct and responsive,” said David Leone, Cadillac Executive Chief Engineer. “Our engineers vetted the ATS’s performance on the track, and the coupe benefits from that exhaustive validation – all matched with Cadillac’s trademark refinement.”

A driver-adjustable sport suspension is available and includes Magnetic Ride Control, a real-time damping system that delivers more precise body motion control. It ‘reads’ the road and can change damping every millisecond. The overall system is further complemented by a mechanical limited-slip differential, high-capacity engine cooling system and summer performance tires.

Cadillac has also teamed up with leading automotive steering systems supplier ZF Lenksysteme GmbH to create a premium electric power steering that refines the ride without sacrificing handling.

Starting with the excellent mechanical steering system, the electronic power steering gives a wider range of assist, resulting in an incredibly well-weighted and responsive steering experience, said Kevin Woodward, global key account at ZF.

Unique aesthetics

The 2015 ATS Coupe rides on the same 2,775 mm wheelbase as the sedan, but features several purposely-designed body panels. The roof, doors, rear fenders and trunk lid are unique to the coupe, along with a specific front fascia and front fenders that accommodate a wider track than the sedan.

It is also the first production model to wear Cadillac’s new crest and sports a redesigned, distinctive front grill and bright dual exhaust tips on all models.

Bold lighting elements are a signature Cadillac feature and the ATS Coupe advances that tradition with standard bi-xenon headlamps with Adaptive Forward Lighting and vertical LED signature lights.

Illuminating exterior door handles on Performance and Premium Collections lend technologically advanced style and function to the distinctive coupe. All models feature LED taillamps and rear-center brake lamp.

Inside, the sedan’s driver-focused cabin carries over to the coupe, featuring handcrafted cut-and-sewn upholstered interior combinations, decorative stitching and authentic materials, including leather, aluminum, carbon fiber and wood, intended to enhance the emotional connection to the driving experience.

Choices of many interior color themes, each with unique accent trim materials, ranging from light, open and warm through dark and serious, to bold, technical and sporty.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel, standard with automatic transmissions, enhances performance driving while also allowing for easy gear changes via the magnesium paddle shifters.

Enhanced Cadillac CUE leads technologies

Cadillac’s exclusive infotainment system CUE is the centerpiece of the ATS Coupe’s comprehensive collection of technologies designed to enhance the driving experience and complement customers’ increasingly connected lifestyles.

It comes with enhanced connectivity and convenience for 2015, including a new Text-to-Voice feature for smartphone users with a Bluetooth profile and Siri Eyes Free for iPhone. Each enables voice-controlled connectivity and helps keep the driver’s hands on the wheel.

The heart of CUE is the vibrant 8″ liquid crystal display (LCD) multi-touch sensitive screen, which resembles a smartphone screen with large, easy-to-target icons to execute commands. It is integrated into the top of the central instrument panel and featuring a motorized, fully capacitive faceplate at the bottom concealing a 1.8L storage area, which also hosts the wireless charging system. Users will be able to charge their compatible smartphones by simply placing the device on the Powermat rubberized mat.

Apart from the convenience and reduced clutter, drivers will no longer need to look for cables and connect devices. The battery is charged by means of an electromagnetic field and the ATS Coupe is the first Cadillac to come equipped with wireless charging.

A Bose® premium audio system with Active Noise Cancelation technology is standard on all models and includes electronic sound enhancement on models equipped with the premium surround sound audio system. This upscale audio system enhances the car’s authentic powertrain sounds to improve the performance experience. This is an exclusive ATS Coupe feature and differs from other manufacturers’ systems that pipe recorded engine sounds through the audio system.

The 12-speaker surround sound upgrade is optional on Standard and Luxury, and is included with the Performance and Premium Collections. It includes Bose Audio Pilot, which continuously monitors ambient sounds and adjusts the music volume and program content to make the most of the listening experience.

A navigation system is optional on Luxury and Performance Collections and standard with Premium.

Additional technologies that make life with the ATS Coupe more convenient include the capability to remotely lower the windows with the key fob. EZ Key passive entry and push-button starting is standard, so the key never needs to leave the driver’s pocket or purse.

More torque, less weight

The ATS Coupe is powered by a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine, rated at 276 hp (203 kW) and 400 Nm of torque. At 138 hp/L, the 2.0L Turbo is one of the most power-dense engines in its segment. It delivers 90 percent of its peak torque from 2,100 to 3,000 rpm and hits the maximum at 3,000 rpm, maintaining it through 4,600 rpm.

The broad torque band is supported by boost levels as high as 1.26 bar in the speed range, which is designed to give the lightweight ATS Coupe – coming in at 1,602 kg and a chart-topping weight/power ratio of 5.8 kg/hp – an exhilarating feeling of immediate power on demand, and a 0 to 100km/h time of 5.8 seconds*.

The engine features direct injection and dual overhead camshafts with continuously variable valve timing, which help optimize power and efficiency as well as reduce emissions. It is matched with a six-speed automatic transmission with magnesium tap-shift control.

Advanced safety features

The coupe delivers the same safety technologies found in the ATS Sedan. Additionally, Cadillac provides advanced safety based on Cadillac’s ‘control and alert’ strategy, which employs up to two cameras, eight ultrasonic sensors and six radar signals to help prevent crashes.

The safety features bolster driver vision and awareness of road hazards, and can even help the driver avert potential accidents. In certain situations, Cadillac’s advanced crash-avoidance systems, such as automatic braking, can pre-fill and automatically apply braking in response to potential hazards.

Many of the advanced safety features are bundled in the Driver Awareness and Driver Assist packages. The Driver Awareness package standard for Performance and Premium, includes:

The advanced technologies complement other ATS safety features, including eight airbags – standard on all models, seat belt pretensioners and load limiters, StabiliTrak electronic stability control (ESC) system with full-function traction control (TC) and four-wheel disc brakes with four-channel ABS, patented rotor coating protection and auto-dry functionality.
